Sharing Uncle Florian's Love of Stift Kremsmunster

Friday, July 12, 2013

We began our Friday Family Finale with a visit to the wonderful Brandl coffee and pastry shop. McDonald's has clearly been replaced by Brandl as our morning favorite, and we will miss these delicious treats when we return to the US!

The display kitchen was fascinating, as we had the opportunity to watch a master pastry chef create his masterpieces.

Our bellies were full of some of the best pastries we had ever experienced, and we were energized to pickup Uncle Florian at his home and begin our final day of visiting with our Austrian family.

Florian shared his personal military memorabilia with Stan, and he presented Marie with a copy of the book he authored about the history of Allhaming.

We then left for a tour of the Stift Kremsmunster, a Benedictine Monastery where Uncle Florian attended school for 10 years from age 8 through 18. He was obviously very proud of his opportunity to study at this school, as well as the many accomplished faculty and graduates he had the privileged to learn about or know personally.

We also enjoyed a coffee and snack at an outdoor cafe at the monastery.

We had the honor of witnessing an ecumenical religious congress being held at the monastery, followed by a mass accompanied by several moving cello musical selections.

We then had the opportunity to tour the cemetery.

After a wonderful morning, it was time for a lunch-time Family Reunion!
